Panoramic Roof Glass Repair
Mobile chip repair, structural crack repair and Crack Arrest for laminated panoramic roof glass across Minneapolis–St. Paul.
See a crack starting in your glass roof? Stop it now with our Crack Arrest service.
A rock can chip the outer glass and start a crack while the laminated panel stays together. Text me photos of the damage before you replace the roof glass.
Three Repair Options
Laminated roof glass can be repaired much like laminated windshield glass. The right service depends on the damage and what you want the repair to accomplish.
Roof Glass Chip Repair
Our chip repair process fills the impact break with structural resin before it grows into a crack. A chip is not automatically a reason to remove the entire roof panel.
Crack Arrest
Crack Arrest stops the active, moving end of the crack. The existing crack remains visible. This is about stopping the spread, not filling the whole crack or making it disappear.
Structural Crack Repair
Every structural crack repair includes Crack Arrest first. First, I stop the moving end of the crack. Then I fill the crack itself with structural resin. That is our structural crack repair process.
Crack Arrest stops it. Structural crack repair stops it and fills it.
Stop It Before It Crosses the Roof
A small crack in a laminated panoramic roof has several feet of glass available to travel across. Your roof does not take nearly as many rock hits as your windshield, but it only takes one to start the damage.
Two inches does not need to become four feet.
Do not wait for a short crack to become a roof-wide problem. Getting it looked at early gives you a chance to keep the glass you already have.
Why Avoid Roof-Glass Replacement?
A panoramic roof is not a Toyota Camry windshield.
Windshield technicians replace common windshields every day. Large bonded panoramic roof panels fail much less often. That makes replacement a much less routine job.
It can mean removing interior trim, cutting out the factory glass, preparing a large bonding surface and setting a huge replacement panel. Then the fit and seal have to be right.
That is a lot of work to solve a chip or crack that might be repairable. Saving the original panel also means keeping its factory installation. The same repair-before-replace thinking is explained in our Factory Windshield Guide.
Laminated vs. Tempered Roof Glass
Tempered glass usually shatters. Laminated glass can chip or crack while the panel stays together. That difference creates the repair opportunity.
Does a crack mean the roof is going to leak? No. A normal crack in laminated roof glass does not mean the roof seal has failed.
If you are not sure which glass you have, look at the markings etched into the panel. A clear photo of the glass marking helps identify it.
Vehicles With Laminated Roof Glass
Documented applications include Tesla Model 3, Model Y, Model S and Model X; Rivian R1T and R1S; Polestar 2, 3 and 4; Volvo XC60 and XC90; BMW iX; Toyota C-HR; and Subaru Forester and Ascent.
Laminated roof-glass applications are also documented for Mercedes-Benz, Ferrari, NIO, Honda, Ford, Nissan and select Jaguar Land Rover vehicles, including Range Rover, Land Rover and Jaguar applications.
Construction can vary by model, year, market and individual roof panel. Not every panoramic roof from these manufacturers is laminated. The glass in your vehicle is what matters.
Why Mint Chips?
I have spent 30 years in auto glass. I have replaced a lot of glass.
I know what is involved when a large bonded piece of factory glass has to come out of a vehicle.
Mint Chips is repair-only. I do not sell panoramic roof glass. I do not make money replacing it.
I repair chips. I stop cracks. I structurally repair cracks.
The goal is to keep damaged roof glass from becoming a replacement job.
Same-day service is available across Minneapolis–St. Paul. If you want to use insurance, provide the claim and referral numbers. Or you can pay Mint Chips directly.
